Founded as SolarJack

Jim & Sandy Allen
Founders, SolarJack

The Allens saw a problem most people hadn't noticed yet.

Families, ranchers, and farmers in remote places struggled with the same basic challenge: reliable water. Off the grid, that meant diesel generators, windmills, or hauling by hand. It was a burden, financially and physically.

The Allens believed there had to be a better way. With that conviction they launched what was then known as SolarJack.

At the time, solar energy was hardly mainstream. It was considered experimental, unreliable, or just too expensive. But Jim and Sandy were determined.

Their vision was simple but powerful: harness the sun’s energy to create water systems that just worked: no fuel, no noise, no constant maintenance. Over time, their small company grew into a trusted name in the solar pumping industry.

Today · the next chapter

Sun Pumps is owner-operated by two families who grew up rural

Garrett & Jenna Hoisington and Tate & Tiffinny Hoisington stepped in to continue what Jim and Sandy started with the same perspective the Allens had: livestock to water, equipment to fix, and problems to solve with your hands.

Garrett & Jenna Hoisington

Co-Owners · Engineering & Operations

Garrett runs the engineering side of the shop, the application sizing calls, the dealer training, the room where pumps get torn down and rebuilt. Jenna keeps the business running, the team taken care of, and the families behind every order remembered by name.

Tate & Tiffinny Hoisington

Co-Owners · Strategy & Customer

Tate handles strategy and customer relationships, the long phone calls with ranchers in their tenth year of owning a Sun Pump, the dealer conversations that turn into 20-year partnerships. Tiffinny supports across the business as needed, raising the family alongside the shop.

“We grew up in a small agriculture town, where solving problems with your hands wasn’t an option. It was a way of life. Between raising livestock, repairing equipment, and finding creative solutions for everyday challenges, we learned early on how much difference a reliable water system makes.”

Our purpose

It isn't about pumps. It's about people.

Sustainable solar water pumping and power solutions for the people and places that need them most. For ranchers keeping cattle watered in remote pastures. For farmers irrigating a field. For families powering an off-grid home.

We help families stay on the land they love, ranchers care for their herds, and communities thrive even when the grid doesn’t reach that far. Reliability matters. Service matters. Trust is earned over time, not sold in a box.

Reliability

Equipment can't fail in the places we serve. Every system is engineered to outlast the warranty paperwork.

Service

A real person picks up the phone. Parts in stock for pumps we built 15+ years ago.

Sustainability

Solar in, water out. No fuel, no noise, no carbon, for forty years and counting.

Stewardship

Helping families stay on the land they love. The work is the point.

Looking ahead

The next forty years.

Innovation, without compromising durability.

Technology changes, but the needs of rural families, farmers, and ranchers remain the same: water when and where it’s needed. We continue to refine our designs, explore new possibilities, and stand behind every product we make.

What started nearly 40 years ago as a bold idea has become a lifeline for countless people around the world. Yet the heart of Sun Pumps remains unchanged: we build products that last, we stand behind our work, and we help people live and work where they belong. Even when the grid doesn’t go that far.
